How Britannia Classical Institute Works
One of the questions we are most frequently asked is, "How does the programme actually work?" The answer is simple. Britannia Classical Institute combines the timeless principles of classical education with the convenience of modern online learning, giving families a complete and structured homeschool programme that is both academically rigorous and easy to follow.
Once enrolled, parents and pupils access their courses through our Moodle online learning platform. Every subject has been carefully organised into individual lessons that guide pupils step by step through the curriculum. There is no need to spend hours searching for resources, planning lessons, or wondering what to teach next—the work has already been done for you.
Each lesson is built around carefully selected educational classics that have been used successfully for generations. Pupils begin by reading from these texts before completing a range of activities designed to deepen understanding and encourage active learning. Depending on the subject, lessons include reading comprehension, narration, written assignments, application questions, reflection activities, quizzes, and opportunities for revision.
Parents remain at the centre of their child's education. Rather than replacing the parent with recorded lectures or video lessons, our programme equips parents to guide, encourage, and discuss what their children are learning. Comprehensive lesson plans and, where appropriate, Parent Answer Sheets provide confidence and support throughout the programme.
One of the great advantages of online delivery is flexibility. Families are free to study at a pace that suits their circumstances. Some may complete a lesson each day, while others may spread their studies differently throughout the week. The curriculum provides structure without imposing unnecessary rigidity, allowing home education to fit naturally around family life.
Throughout each course, it records progress, marks quizzes automatically, and keeps all lesson materials organised in one place. This allows parents to focus less on administration and more on the enjoyable task of learning alongside their children.
At Britannia Classical Institute, technology is used to support education, not replace it. The online platform provides organisation, structure, and convenience, while the heart of the programme remains what has always characterised a great education: reading excellent books, engaging thoughtfully with ideas, and cultivating wisdom through careful study.
Our aim is to make a high-quality Catholic classical education accessible to every family by removing the burden of curriculum planning while preserving the timeless methods that have formed generations of educated men and women. The result is a programme that is simple to use, affordable to access, and designed to help both parents and pupils flourish together.
